Palm Sunday (Sunday Before Easter)
We stand on the threshold of Easter. Today we commemorate Jesus' Triumphal entry into Jerusalem over votive palms, as King, with the knowledge that between now and next week Jesus will have overturned the tables of the money changers, argued with the Temple authorities, been betrayed, tried, found guilty, almost but not in fact given amnesty, been crucified, been buried and finally vanished.
So it might be worth understanding what Palm Sunday is really all about. What are "votive palms" and why palms anyway? Why does Jesus ride in on an ass (and a colt)?
Why is the rider on the white horse from Revelation significant - and what is the purpose of depicting Jesus in this way?
Hope you enjoy the exploration...
