Light of the Hidden One

This is probably an unusual sort of Christian podcast.

It's not theological -- for theology prevents direct experience of the Kingdom. It's not "Bible text only" -- for we are all too aware of Christianity's origins: developing alongside other religions. Hence, comparative traditions inform our practice.  It's not entirely apolitical -- how can a good Christian ignore a world run by freedom hating bullies? Christianity is the religion of freedom since the very beginning.  And early Christians knew only too well that this particular time -- our current era -- would eventually come.

Finally this podcast differs from so many because we explore the Christianity of an "Inner Tradition."

No words can produce direct knowledge of the Kingdom. Yet, grappling for a spell with words, parables, verses and commandments in the tumult life brings -- can provide us a guide-rope. Then the bridge across the chasm between this World and the Secret Father may be more traversable.   The Kingdom of Heaven is with us every moment yet the Hidden One is cloaked by nature and most of us have forgotten how connected we are.

We can be more like our Secret Father by going within.  This podcast arises from direct knowledge of how true that really is.

What is "steadfast service"? How do you find determination to continue on a project of service when facing fears, disappointment, detractions and a thousand other obstacles and shocks?     We look at 2 patterns of service described by Paul and Matthew respectively and give one technique among several for how to bring forth the necessary internal state that means we remain focused with the right view.   Texts   Romans 12 Matthew 25

Fifth Sunday After Trinity - God As Peace

Sunday Jul 17, 2022

What does this mean: God as Peace? How is God peace?   More importantly, if an aspect of God is Peace, what allows us to be in that Peace?  Since trouble is when peace is not then isn't it the undoing of trouble that allows God as Peace to manifest?  How does that happen? What is required to bring our troubles to an end? Troubles result from conflicts, the most pervasive being the conflict inherent in the chronic fear which flesh is heir to.  So the ending of our many fears would end a lot of troubles probably.  Let's explore that and more today.    Texts Galatians 5 John 14

What does it mean: God As Light? Where does this question lead us and what mysteries does this open up for us? If the Divine Light is love and also prevents our stumbling how may we walk in it? (Part 1) Trinity Sunday and The Twelve Dancing Princesses (Part 1)

Monday Jun 13, 2022

This is part 1 of a 2 part podcast which I felt compelled to split because of unwieldy length and initially, what I considered very bad editing.   This part consists only of the story telling content: from John 14, Revelation 4 and The Twelve Dancing Princesses.  All the commentary is in Part 2.   If nothing else, I hope you enjoy the stories.

The Bridegroom

Many traditions like to tell you what to do.  Very few know how you can do it.

Christianity is the religion of individual liberty and individual law.  Its mysteries are spoken in the tongue of the birds; its ways are gentle and persistent, like water; its goal is the great Stability of the Bridegroom, the One who stands above the maelstrom: His hard won, eternal  liberation.  Who is this hidden One? What is this place we call the world? What is the Love to which we are commanded? What is it to love the One? And how do you love your neighbours and your enemies?

The Path of the Promise

As "children of the promise" it is our birthright to enjoy spiritual and temporal freedom at all times. Yet all life has risk and suffering: life presents us with difficulties by which we can either be defeated or elevated.  The Way of Sacrifice is all about taking the obstacle and turning it into the stair-step.

To walk this Path requires certain priorities.  Freedom above safety: you will get nowhere on the Path of Steps if you value your safety more than your freedom. Direct experience above theology: truth arises within you directly whereas theology and philosophy is just other people talking (usually about what still others have said). Inner law above social mores: without developing internal strength you can be easily blown onto rocky ground or be choked in the snare of others' judgements and the endless gratifying of your own desires; an inner lawfulness, an inner limit prevents instability (when you know who you are). We must prioritize finding out who we really are and what this world really is. Finally -- above all else -- we must seek to know who the Hidden One is and what is Loving Him with all heart, mind and strength.

This is the background to these talks and this community.  You must be your own person, rise by your own merit and (eventually) fear nothing - not even death - unless it is failing to do right by your own conscience.  Growth in charisms, in wisdom, in peace and finally the achievement of liberation with the One are common side effects of walking this Path.  And it's more fun to walk it together.

The Ecclesiastical Cycle

We follow a model of the ecclesiastical calendar which delivers maximal opportunity for immersion in the energies and currents of spiritual growth available during the year. A system of intents provide directions for growth throughout the seasons while the major festivals like Easter and Christmas present us with mysteries to explore, like gifts to unwrap.

I love conversation so as time goes on the conversational content  will gradually grow and may even one day replace the monologue.  But that is still a way off...
