Week following the Ninth Sunday after Trinity - Confidence

Confidence...  a difficult idea to approach in our world right now.

In what and who should we be confident?

What is the value of competence and what are its limitations?

It may sound like a silly question, but why do we want to be confident?

Confidence is not easy to gain and maintain... being linked to trust and demonstrations of promises kept.  How can we keep our promises to others and especially to ourselves? Our readings for today link confidence to self-emptying but what is that and how do you do it... and keep doing it?
